Has anyone ever had their tort treated for a Bladder Stone? I am told that the cost of this procedure is about $1800 and if that is the case, I do not know what to do. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks so much, srcfolks in Arizona
Hi everyone. Has anyone had to have a stone removed from a tortoise? My 12 yr old sulcata's xray shows a huge stone has developed in her bladder, and my vet say's that surgery is a must. Thank you for any information on this topic. sincerely srcfolks
You could see if there is a cheaper vet in your area, but make sure it's one that knows how to treat tortoises. You could see if there are any tortoise rescues that could/would help with the cost, of the suggestion that Yvonne made about go fund me. Also see if your vet will take payments. What ever way you choose, the tort needs to be helped. That's the cost of owning animals sometimes. But the pay off they give us is worth it.
I don't want to give you false hope but while you are getting the money together soak her 4x a day. I had a Sulcata rescue come in with a stone the size of a golf ball but was not healthy enough to survive surgery. I soaked her 4x a day for months and months (about year) and it dissolved on its own. I'm not a vet and it might not work for your animal but it might be worth trying and at least you'll feel like you are doing something!
