My partner recently received this little guy from a former coworker who couldn't keep him anymore. We were told that he was a western ornate box turtle / Terappene ornata ornata like our 2 others, but I've had some doubts from the beginning. The longer we have him, the more I'm unsure what kind of box turtle he is, and the more I'm confident that he's not the same species as our other 2. I want to be absolutely certain we have his care right and his identification right, can anyone confirm what kind of box turtle he is? I've been back and forth studying pictures of different types without any luck on being certain.

Yes, that IS a western ornate, or desert box turtle, Terrapene ornata. Used to be called luteola, but now ornate. Terrapene ornata ornata may be what your others are. They look different from each other.

Thank you! I'll go update his enclosures label then and remove the extra ornata from it, and let my partner know so we can update husbandry as needed.
