My tortoise had a bubbly nose in the winter and its fine now. Ive seen it in other forums and was wondering whether its really drastic if they have a bubbly nose?:/
As soon as you notice that, bump the heat all over up a little in the enclosure and for at night. Sometimes it will clear on it's own with a little higher temp. If it gets worse, then a vet visit may be in need. Let's hope it doesn't come back
A bubbly nose alone is not a trigger to rush to the vet....as mentioned previously, if it is a clear runny/bubbly nose alone and not other appetite loss, loss of activity--lethargy...then bump the temps to no less than 80-85 (even through the night) and let the basking spot remain....if warm outside, the more outside warm dry time the better....
Yes, if your tort has been diagnosed with a legitimate RI (tested and diagnosed) then they will always be a carrier of that infection even if the symptoms are under control...and a tortoise can live a long long happy life if the symptoms are under control.
Now, if you just have a clear bubble form the nose from time to time then you could have a number of things....low humidity, parasites, tortoise that is experiencing some type of stress or simply bubbles can also happen during or after a soak, or during or after a feeding on a wet juicy type food....so clear bubbles alone do not automatically equal a RI....
