I am a new tort owner and I was thinking, could I prepare my little guy's food, vacuum seal and freeze it so I don't waste? And thaw what is needed or blanch the food?

Welcome to the forum!

You can, and you’ll get info from people who dry or freeze food but living in El Paso I’m not sure you’ll have to. You have a growing climate much of the year.

What kind of tortoise do you have and what are you feeding him now. Also, what kinds of stores or a yard do you have access to?

See freezing leaves like the pic will make a soupy mess as they warm ! But you maybe can dry them for storage and spice your fresh Veggies with the dryed ones for less waist .

There is an awesome nursery here that I plan on getting from to make a garden for him. He's a hatchling sulcata tortoise, named him ' Benjamin Button '. Currently I'm feeding him chopped collard, mustard, turnip greens, but I have a few other items to mix it up.

Prepared tortoise food in a tightly sealed bowl lasts three days in my fridge, so that's how much I prepare, three days worth. Freezing greens causes them to turn to mush. Wish I knew how the growers did it, because you can buy frozen greens that aren't mush.

It's hard to feed one little baby tortoise. You usually end up with a lot of rotten stuff to discard. Hopefully you can train your family to like the same types of food the baby eats and you guys can clean up the left-overs.

You can start learning how to introduce him to the right foods by taking a look at these two threads:

https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/sulcata-diet-sheet.64290/
https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/for-those-who-have-a-young-sulcata.76744/.

You’ll be able to buy cactus very easily where you are, among other things.

Have you read the care sheet for baby sulcatas? I’m no expert but your baby looks a little dry: https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/how-to-raise-a-healthy-sulcata-or-leopard-version-2-0.79895/.

If you still have questions about housing and setup after reading this thread, it would be best to post them in the sulcata subforum; the people there have raised many healthy babies. :)

Lol, it'd be nice if I could convince my family but I think my kids would think I'm trying to poison them.

We just got him from the pet store yesterday, I did get some books and do some research before committing to the little guy.
He was a bit dry, I'm hoping to correct that plus his diet. I don't think his previous conditions were the greatest.
He really seems to enjoy getting out in the yard and running around. That sounds funny to say, but I swear he was wagging his tail nipping at the grass.

That’s great you are doing the research but be advised much of the information you’ll find on books and the internet is out of date. Most babies are started too dry. You can correct it but as mentioned above, you need to improve his humidity as quickly as you can. We’ve already said it a billion times but do read the care sheets, lol. :)
