You should ABSOLUTELY find a vet that specializes in bulldoggs (pugs, shitzus..flat face dogs) as their breathing/airway is a tricky thing.
When I had my three bulldoggs I had to have trachea surgery on each prior to their 2nd birthday. They belong to group of dogs aka brachiocephalic breeds...."flat faces"
They are apt to overheat MUCH quicker than long nosed breeds, they don't swim--they sink--seriously...one of my bulldoggs was found by its prior owner "walking" on the bottom of her pool...luckily she was out doing yardwork and happened by the pool to look in and see him in the midst of drowning...
It is important to always have with you a way to rapidly cool down the bulldogg, especially if they are of the tenacious spirit (all three of mine were) get your dog socialized early as to avoid high levels of excitement that will cause heavy breathing/panting. You will want to get on hand Lemon Juice as if your puppy or adolescent "goes down" you will squirt this in their throat (it quickly breaks up the mucos that increases the chance of the throatway being closed off).
Please go online and review all that you can about your new little buddy....
One of my bullys, Spike, was a ribbon winner in every show he was in....he was a little butt, very tenacious...full of himself, he knew when he was in the ring he could not be corrected and would test me from time to time...very fun
I lost him, he was 4 years 4 days old that day 09-23-95...he was at my Moms while I was away for a night, well in the am I went to pick him up and got to my Moms and heard her sobbing along the side of the house in the back yard, as I went around I found her sitting in the dirt with my Spike draped across her lap....(she had dogs and always kept them away from Spike, but this particular am her dogs got loose and her 4 and my Spike got worked up and he had a scuffle with one of her dogs and he went down) ...I scaled the 6 foot fence in what seemed like nothing grabbed my Spike and even tried mouth to mouth (only dog ever, I just loved him so) but he was already gone....
I have to say that after living with Bulldoggs it is never the same when you have other long nose....however, I do love my two funny looking long nosed dogs but my heart was broken with the loss of my little flat face..
