I also basically got a adult russian tortoise as a gift as my uncle didn't want it anymore(his children's bored i have made him a temporary setup as i want to quarantine him before letting him go with my other russian in the garden however he has a slight issue his one back leg has toes bent inwards idk why i asked my uncle he said its been the same since when he got him he is eating good and eats from my hand too but hides all day and he hates soaks and has abit of pyramiding and his eyes seem abit watery (i am not sure maybe i was looking too closely lol) i will share pics tmrw he is active in the morning but as soon as i uncover his top which remains like that all day he hides in his pot. I am feeding it Egyptian clover romaine lettuce and a very small of carrots and cucumbers and coriander i got him 2 days ago i soaked him today and his poop basically spread out but the poop in his enclosure seems healthy

You cannot have two tortosies together, one will bully the other to death. You need separate enclosures...

Carrots and cucumbers are not good for them

This info is good for Russians, and has link to their needs as well.

You may try to setup him a small shaded outdoor pen and let him out, under your supervision, for 15 minutes daily. After that give him a warm bath and put back in the indoors enclosure. I'm sure if that's possible - you mentioned that you need to go to work.

What CFL lamps are available to order? I would stay away from "unknown" cheapest brands (same for the fluorescent tubes - UV output is often unpredictable).

I am talking about the basic CFL bulb used in households

Can you post a link to this lamp or exact maker/model, so I can look at the specifications?
It looks like an incandescent lamp - they are good for the basking zones, but have no UVB output and almost zero UVA.

Thank you. Unfortunately, product description doesn't give more information. This *could be* either metal halide bulb (they give out much UVA and very little to none UVB) or halogen bulb (they give very little UVA and almost zero UVB). Both lamp types are too harsh for baby tortoise shells.

At this point I think that would be better to let your tortoise outside for a little than to buy UVB bulbs of unknown quality (it's the issue with chinese lamps that quality varies and fakes are sold as well).

You may also look if delivery from Amazon regional sites or DesertCart works for you. Selection on Daraz is very limited...

Hello!
It is not completely clear what you want to do:
1. A decorative 3D background using spray foam and paint
2. Or insulate the tortoise table to prevent heat and humidity losses

Some keepers make decorative backgrounds with metallic mesh and foam, but it's more popular for lizards (they can climb over it). I'm not sure if it makes sense for tortoises - they will rub and tear the foam with their shell and can eat pieces of foam then.

For insulation it's better to use insulation boards (e.g. polystyrene). It's cheap to buy and you can find left-over pieces at construction sites (just ask the builders).

I wanted it for purely aesthetic purposes what idea i have rn is to basically get a c&c cage and use plastic sheets or tarp to cover the sides for humidity purposes and maybe make it 2 tier later because the tabel i have rn is 5.5×2.5 while the c&c one would be 6.5ft ×3.5ft plus probably a second tier amd i can increase the size btw its also realy hot in pak like around 40°C any tips to keep my tortoise cool other than soaks and misting

Okay, I understood. You can make a foam background if you want to. Probably, vinyl background decorations for fish tanks will work too.

As for keeping tortoise cool - that's not an easy task (heating is easier than cooling). Two-tiered enclosure may help (lower tier will be cooler). Also, deep enough substrate (6-8 inches) to allow burrowing. Keeping the enclosure far from windows, in a shaded room or basement also makes temperatures more predictable. Or running an air conditioner. You need 80-85F for a baby tortoise, probably it can be achieved without too much efforts (I think in your house temperatures are lower than outside). Another trick is to use computer fan to intensify evaporation from substrate surface.

My tortoise table is not exactly in the house neither out(for my russian) its basically is in my balcony with the house roof covering it but it gets direct sunlight during evening period and about the depth of the surface my russian doesn't really like digging i already have 4 inch deep substrate he nevr digs he lives in the clay pot i have given him as hide

Okay, you have not many options then. Several layers of shade, deep moist substrate and a hide buried in substrate (like a bunker) or two level enclosure. And a water dish in the shaded area, of course. It's a bit strange that your Russian tortoise doesn't burrow - that's what they do naturally to escape the heat (in extreme temperatures they also may aestivate in their burrows - fall in a state of low activity somewhat similar to winter brumation).

Yeah i don't get it either why he doesn't burrow whenever i bring my sulcata into the russians enclosure (under supervision and during the time my russian has gone back to his hide)he digs especially if i mist the substrate down
