The spineless does have hair-like needles that get stuck in your skin and are near impossible to see to get them out. I always wear rubber gloves when handling it.

Those darn glochids! They get me every time too! You can't see them but they sure hurt and stay in for days until your body dissolves it. I have yet to see a cactus that's free of some spikies. And yes, wear gloves! I handle all cacti with old newspapers, even with gloves on

If you do get stuck with the tiny spines, lay a strip of duct tape tightly over the area and then peel it off. It will often take the spines with it.

Did you let the pad sit out in the sun to let the fleshy "wound" where it was broken off the main plant get little calluses? I always do this, as some cacti will start rotting if you put them in the soil still moist
