Cactus Thief

Caught one of our stars chowing down on a cactus pad that grew a little too low. I don't mind a bit, of course, I always enjoy watching them forage and find their own food.

Do you think you would be "spoiling" him by maybe making it a bit easier to get that delicious snack? Or do you normally mix some up in his meals anyway? He's adorable!

They are opportunist. You gave him the opportunity and he's taking it.
I bet he figures out how to get over that wall as soon as he can't reach that pad.

They get enough food anyways (including cactus), so I think the challenge of finding their own food and working for it as shown in the picture is beneficial for them. I think it helps them develop them to not rely so much on me and taking opportunities when they find them.

That is correct, and the unintended benefit of the brick design. It's high enough, and oddly shaped enough, to prevent them from climbing over or accessing the main pads, but low enough for them to get to the lower growing pads.
