Hi everyone,

I recently changed the light into Ceramic Heat Emitter(100w), and bought a glass top to keep the humidity.

- May I ask if I can put the Ceramic Heat Emitter directly on the glass top? Like the way in the picture.
- And does the glass prevent the UVB light? (Please ignore me if this is an stupid question)

The glass top is Aqueon, and I’m not sure if it is tempered glass, did not find this in the product introduction.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

The glass will either overheat the CHE. Or the CHE will make the glass explode if water condensation gets on it.
Either way. Do not attempt it.
Thank you! Is there a way to use the CHE to keep the temperature as well as use the top to keep the humidity? I’ve read some threads that recommend to make the enclosure closed for the humidity, but not sure how to use the CHE in this case. Will this way be better?

Post a picture of the whole enclosure and what species you have and what size is he?
Most aquariums are too small for anything larger than a hatchling

Yes. The issue is with the dimensions of most aquariums.
Look into posts about GREENHOUSE type enclosures. With something like those, you can suspend your CHE as well as your strip T5 uvb inside the enclosure.

You cannot use a CHE over glass. To get the advantages of a closed chamber, all the heating and lighting needs to be inside the enclosure. Can't do that with a glass top in a shallow tank.

Yes, glass filters out UVB. There should be nothing but air space between the tortoise and the UV tube.

Thanks for all your reply! This is the whole enclosure for my red foot tortoise. The picture was taken before I use the CHE. She is 10cm (she may be one-year old but we are not sure). For the GreenHouse closed enclosure, I’ll search more and definitely consider to use it.

Thank again. :)

I’ve searched in the forum to see what kind of greenhouse that others use, and find a similar one. Is this okay for me to use? Is there any requirement for the material of the greenhouse? Thanks!
