I saw this guy posted on a local Facebook group yesterday, looking to be in need of help. Can anyone identify what it is so I can look for help?

Who could I contact to try to help this guy?!? We found help through avian contacts strangely enough. I am just learning about tortoise care; I feel to new to also learn turtle care. But the thought of leaving this poor creature in this situation makes me ill.

Looks like a slider or cooter from what I see. Can't really tell since all the carapace pattern is totally gone due to years of scute retention. Would need to see the leg, head and neck markings to really identify

I am sure that some unscrupulous and cruel people deliberately set up the animals on display in inappropriate enclosures, for the purpose of drawing horror and pity, and even guilt, from potential customers: "Oh no!! OMG. I have to save him."
