CHE and melting?

I use plastic liner to prevent moister seeping through the wood. How would I go about avoiding the che from melting the plastic? What methods do you guys use?

How do you mount the CHE? Is it in a clamp fixture or hanging over the habitat? No matter how you have it, it should never come into contact with the plastic liner. The only way to melt the liner would be for the CHE to actually be touching the plastic. If there is any air space at all between the liner and the CHE, it won't melt the plastic. However, you should be having the CHE point into the habitat, not towards the walls where the liner is.

I actually don't have one yet. But for some reason I was thinking it was a heat matt...like the ones snakes use. I didn't know they were clamps? Would you happen to have a pic of yours?

It works like a heat bulb but without the light. You MUST use a ceramic socket with any CHE.

I do have one of those, and it does melt any plastic within say 8", well past the wire protective thingee. I was wondering about dropping down from 100 to the 60 (found one, and one only, on line).
this season, it's second, it doesn't seem to heat as well tho. Is that what people mean by theirs is breaking?
also my under mat pad seems to barely be heating this season. Is this typical? My house drops to 55 at night so must figure out soon!

I wouldn't recommend using an underneath heating pad,as torts are used to receiving heat from above. Also if youre having trouble keeping the temps up at night,you can use an infared light bulb&&wont be bothered by the light

I like to have the T-Rex cobra heating mat and the ceramic bulb both, but have to figure out a good ceramic bulb mount this year.
just finishing adding the orchids to the top of the habitat for humidity. did a pvc exo frame around it, with a shower curtain and a 4' light, but the orchids are grabbing most of the light, so she'll have a lot of choice.

I'll think about an infrared, but it is in our bedroom. we'll see.
will send pix in a day or so when the habitat is finished.
