I was gifted a 250 Watt CHE.

Is this too strong to use for a hatchling hermann? If it is useful I think it would probably be used here in the deep winter when our single pane windows suck our heat out of the house.

Should be fine. Mount it over the middle of the enclosure and use a thermostat to control it. Run it ONLY in a large domed ceramic based fixture.

I am correct in my thinking it will probably only be needed during winter? As cold as it gets in the winter it gets quite hot here.

Like Tom said, it depends on ur enclosure size. How big/high is it? You hook your CHE up via a thermostat & it turns on & off to maintain the ambient temp in your enclosure. You arent trying to heat up an entire room.

Something like this thermostat - set it at the temp you want, it turns the CHE on/off to maintain.

This all depends on the type of enclosure, the room temperature, and what temperatures you are trying to maintain.

We get down into the 20s on a cold winter night here, but my house is 70-72.

A 250 watt CHE is a lot of heat, but the thermostat will control it and keep it from overheating the enclosure.
