Species should never be mixed - especially species that have evolved on different continents like your Sulcata (Africa) and your Redfooted (South America). Besides the injuries that can happen because of the more aggressive sulcata, there are diseases that could make one or the other sick or even dead.
No, when a shell is damaged it never grows back to the original shape.
