Hi all! I’ve recently come back from house sitting, I took my tortoise and her enclosure with me. (With great difficulty) Bringing her home a lot of her substrate fell on the floor, I didn’t want to reuse it as we use bleach and other disinfectants on the floor. I have a bag of chipped bark for the garden, it doesn’t say there’s any pesticides or fertilisers in it. It just says it’s wood chips from an ethical forest. This is just until her usual substrate comes it will be here in about a week or so. I don’t want her laying on nothing for the whole week. Thank you :)

Hello from Devon - I would suggest using newspaper covered over with paper towels - just in case !

If you are asking us if you should use the "chipped bark" the answer is no. There is no way to know what it is and it could be something toxic in a small closed space.

If the current substrate was not drop into actual liquid bleach, it should be fine to use. After a floor is cleaned and dried, there is not enough chemical residue to do any harm, if there is any at all.

If you were just informing us of what you are doing and don't want advice, well... I think you've come to the wrong place for that. :)

While I understand being cautious, I'd also scoop the substrate off of the floor and place it back into use.
Unless, like TOM mentioned. The bleach was still wet.
