That is the most active area for sure. The shade/heat, water, and we always feed in that area. They also get daily showers and scratchings every day in this area. We try and not go out into the open field area and disturb them at all when they are out there, only to pick up poop or catch the egs as they are being layed. The females tend to go out there to lay eggs and during the rainy season all of them like the field for browsing. A lot of times when they are out in the field and see us up front they will come up for a shower, scratching, or some treats. I have a strict policy that they get all extra food up front, it is way easier to clean up and control the ants. The only time we provide any food out in the open field area is after one of the females lay a clutch, they always get something special.
