I'm just wondering how Vlad is doing or have they kept you up to date? Out of curiosity, was he stinky and infested when you tried to help him? I once tried to help one and he was. I'm interested in knowing what hurts them so bad that they need rescued. After all they eat some ungodly things.

I think Mark said one of its wings looked as if it could be hurt, Cathie. Let's hope it can be fixed and he can be released.

Yes. That would be best. But even if he has to stay at the sanctuary they are an interesting bird. They call them birds of prey but let's face it they prefer already dead stuff.

We are supposed to have a big snow today. I'm not going to complain the water is badly needed and so is the freeze. Ohio used to have really hard winters but not anymore. Sapphire is awake and eating and the others are fine and warm. It's snowing now but I'm in a cozy home for now. Hopefully we won't have a power outage.

The snow here was very short lived and was turning into slush, by this morning. I think it was worse in the north of the UK, with power cuts and now flood warnings to put contend with.

Rose made a carrot cake for New Year’s dinner dessert. Her and Nanay don't really care for it. The cream cheese frosting is to sweet for them. So that left it up for me to eat.
Finished the last piece tonight. So I have had fleeting thoughts of going on a diet. Fleeting is the key word.

We have a beautiful snowfall happening now, it started around 3am. It was cold here so it's all laying. Yesterday I look outside as we are sitting for dinner and i see my 80yr old neighbor is trying to set a wooden armed heavy mailbox post. It was 25f out! Lol
The hill dictated an 8' post but his was 6' tall. I got 3 steel rebar rods and angled them into the ground at the bottom of his hole to raise the post. Dumped a bag of sacrete in and a pitcher of water and Jed's a millionaire!
It was too cold to be out there alone...LOL

Today is a snow day, I don't think I'll go to work!

Good afternoon/evening all
I hope all friends in the US affected by the snow are ok, I've been thinking of you.
It has been a dryish day here after all lot of rain last night but some areas of the UK have been badly hit by floods again. The Leicestershire village near my sister's home was flooded for the second time since this time last year. It is incredible and very worrying that so many areas are experiencing floods now. It used to be such a rare thing but it's happening all the time now.
We only have ourselves to blame.
And on that cheerful note I'll say nod da. Take care.

It's dreadful, for the people and the wildlife. They are all in my thoughts.
Does anyone know how bad it's been for Cathie's area? I was hoping there would be a post from her so I'm hoping she's ok

Good day everyone.
I hope everyone in the snow and power cut affected areas is bearing up. Looks horrific on the news.
It's freezing here but fairly dry today, I hope it's dry tomorrow, I have to get to the eye hospital for an appointment and they've said I won't be able to drive after it, so I'll have to go on the bus. I'll book a taxi to bring to me home.

I have a casual question....and I don't like to "ask the internet"

Which direction do you place the opening to a birdhouse?

I have NEVER been able to get birds to nest in mine.

We have one on Gods window and it faces N by NE- no one used it last year.

We have another on top of the trellis for 3 years, no dwellers, it faces S

I recently modified both with a small piece of 2x4 with a 1" hole drilled through, placed over the entrance.
Any insights are welcome!
