Thanks Natrah, it's got to go back in next week so that they can see what's going on. It could just be something is stuck and could easily be freed up 🤞🙏 or it could be something far more expensive 😟.
The mechanic said it was worth having done because it's too good to be scrapped or sold for parts which would the only other option.
I've had to bring it home so it's ok to drive for short journeys, but the MOT runs out Sunday so I can't use it then.
We had a problem with our Skoda involving the steering being a bit off - the mechanic just bashed the base, and knocked it back in place in about five minutes - it has been fine ever since ! If your mechanic says your car is worth fixing, then it probably is -you could hang on to it until you find your chosen replacement, and still sell it then.

Good morning all.
My car is in the garage for it's MOT test to make sure it's still roadworthy so fingers crossed everyone! 🤞
I really hope it passes or I'll have to make a big decision about whether to spend more on it. I think I've already spent more on repairs than it's worth this year, yet it's too good to be scrapped. Let's just hope it passes. 🙏
It's a lovely sunny, autumn day here. I hope you're all having a good day where you are. TTFN
🤞 Here's hoping it passes. I figure you're better off fixing and keeping it if you can't buy new. You've done the repairs and to buy used will be another car that probably needs repairs. 🙏🙏🙏

I got a new phone and managed to get all of my stuff onto the new one all by myself even the phone number 😭. I bought the same phone only newer and it's different 😁. I'm so proud of my granny self 😎🥴😁
The reviews said the camera sucks but I don't think so. It's good enough for what I do. To prove it here's a picture of my little best friend.IMG_20250923_202729524.jpg

I think he's beautiful and I wish I could give him a big cuddle. Tilly is arriving tomorrow so I'll have plenty then.

Last month she wasn't well and my sister was worried that her heart problem was affecting her, but turned out to be a phantom pregnancy, she was even lactating! Anyway with the vet's guidance she recovered from that. My sister and her hubby now have to decide whether to have Tilly spayed or not. They haven't done it before because of the risk with her heart, but they don't want her to keep having hormonal problems and there's also the risk of cancer in unspayed females, so it's a big decision for her.
I'm looking forward to having her around for the week.

I have a risk for cancer for Razberri (my bunny) too. But she only had a false pregnancy once and then she was done with that. Maybe dogs are different. But since they would have to knock her out for surgery I'm not going to do it. That would be 2 seriously risky procedures based on something that might happen. Just my thoughts on it.

But have some warm cuddles with Tilly.😘Mr Fre is a perfect little blanket for my lap. He thinks he owns it. He won't let even his best friend Willow sit there without him He lets her eat his food and steal his toys but not that 😁 Willow is my son's bishon morkey creature dog.

Good evening everyone!

My new neighbour has got his old job back and he should start work in January. He is looking forward to coming home wearing his probation officer 's lanyard🤣!

Natrah
Sounds like he's not someone who puts up with any nonsense, so hopefully the landlord etc will get a move on and your noisy neighbour will soon be gone.

Wow, under 70F is chilly for buildings. In the Northeast US, they typically turn on the boilers on Oct 15th and the chillers (for cooling) on either April 30 or May 15 depending on the city. I would have guessed that in Finland the heat would be turned on earlier than here in the US. Lol..so much for intuition.

Ray...you met her....like lightning in a bottle. You can't predict... I just have to stay 2 steps ahead of her. How's that leg doing? You've been quite again buddy....
Leg is much better. I will have a hematoma on my shin for quite awhile. My sleep has really been interrupted because of phantom pains. So lately I get virtually no sleep for 2 or 3 days. Then when my body and mind wear out. I get some sleep but that generally seems to be during the day. So when I am in zombie mode. I don't get much accomplished. But things are getting back to normal. So I will start being productive again.

Are you looking forward to the new Gopher family Ray?

Natrah
I am keeping a eye on the nest. I tried hooking up a cctv camera that I had when Opo was a little tort. Couldn't get it to hook up to the wifi. I reloaded the app but still no success. I read they like to reveal themselves at night. When they feel the temperature drop at night. They come out under the cover of night. They make a type of cage, that you can put over the nest. So they can't get away. But to me it doesn't seem right to mess with mother nature. The eggs are in a fairly large flower bed. With only one way to get out. So hopefully I will get a look at some of them.

This is one of our community piers. When it was installed they forgot to cut the piling shown underwater low enough. It hangs up so i installed the 6x8 chock piece lastnight. This is high tide so i wanted to make sure it didn't hang up today. At low tide 20" of that lower piling will be above the water....that happened today at 330pm.
Even though they took my cape away due to age, I still get called for this stuff....i found myself calf deep in the muck standing next to the piling with my 20" gas powered chain saw. Wow....it took a while as Kerry had to run home for tools so i could adjust the chain halfway thru. It wasnt like normal wood! Whew!
Glad you came out of the water with all your limbs. 😁

Well I had everything crossed for my little car, but it still failed the test. 😢 I haven't heard from the garage yet but I went onto the government MOT check website and can see that it failed because

'Nearside Front Service brake excessively binding (1.2.1 (f)'

That could be really expensive - at the least £180ish but could be a lot more and I really don't know if it's worth spending more on it.
What a shame😭
I think I'll make my way to the garage so that I can speak to them about it. I am so disappointed, but nothing I can do now.
Anyway TTFN
Sounds like a brake caliper. It would be great if you could find a used caliper. But sometimes for a few bucks more you can get a new one.

Fwiw: I did math for a living....and my dad once told me that it's almost always cheaper to fix a car than it is to replace it.
It's true...i have done the math over and over.
Even when faced with replacing the engine in my Cadillac for 7000 dollars in 1990 it was cheaper than replacing the car, even with a lesser quality car!
A new car is always "want" and never a need. Keeping that in mind makes it easier to ignore the tv commercials.

sorry you are on that treadmill of sleep/exhaustion Ray. That is tough as the days meld together. I don't worry a bit about not doing anything when I'm in that cycle...i used to but im getting better about not being in a rush now.

We spoke with my brother and his wife yesterday for an hour. They were in Yellowstone park while we were in Maine so we wanted all the lessons-learned on their trip. They live in AZ and flew to Montana then rented an SUV then they drove to Walmart and picked up their preorder of groceries and hiking chairs she had made before they left AZ. BRILLIANT MOVE!
They drove their suv with a cooler full of food for a week....apparently there aren't a lot of restaurants in the park. They also stayed in the dumpy overpriced Yellowstone hotel for $500 a night because it was easier than waiting in 5 mile lines to get into the park each day. Always a fun decision! LOL but we will probably do the same....i don't like waiting when i can afford the cost of not waiting. LOL We have to book now if we want to go next September!

Thanks Ray,.
Yes they mentioned that it could be that or some pistons that may be sticking. The calipers I've seen online don't look too expensive - it's the labour costs that push the price up.
Hopefully my problem is the cheaper of the 2.

There are 1 or 2 pistons in the caliper. Back in the day you could by rebuilding kits for a caliper. But like most auto parts they either don't sell a rebuilding kit. Or the price for a new one caliper isn't much more than the kit. Plus changing out a caliper. Would be cheaper labor than to rebuild one. The thing is they might want to change brake pads on both sides. Jeff is right about it being cheaper than buying a new car.
Good luck
