Good morning Cathie,

Seeing a Hummingbird Bird would be heaven for me. What other birds do you get in your garden?

Natrah
Years ago I lost my mind and planted a true Crab apple tree to replace an ornamental crab apple tree that died. It came from the Arbor Day Foundation. I didn't know what I had done.🤔 Life has never been the same since. Even though I live on a fairly busy street in a city there's no telling what I'll see as far as wildlife goes. Just a few days ago I got to see a rose breasted grosbeak (bird). I have 3 types of woodpeckers that visit regularly. Hummingbirds, at least 5 pairs of Cardinals, the same amount of doves, some grackles lately migrating. Chickadees and gold finch. I could go on and on. Then there's the racoons, opossum, deer, and groundhog. The time I saw the groundhog I thought "why would someone drop a tree stump on my front sidewalk!!!?" He was just sitting there in broad daylight eating a crab apple. I guess he thinks he owns the place. I love it.😊 I've even seen a skunk following a family of cats down the street. I have no clue what that was about. But it happened I promise.

I put ours up 4/1 after someone posted they saw one here. I didn't see one till the day before yesterday! Also saw my 1st Pilated Woodpecker of the year today. He was attacking a tree stump so we got a great close view of him. Very cool.
I saw my first robin in February. I was frightened for them at first but I'm still seeing plenty of them so... I haven't spotted my hummingbird since my first sighting but I haven't given up. I'm sure someone will stop by to visit. I have rose of Sharon in the backyard 😊 too.

The robin we had last year seemed to have vanished over the winter, but a robin has been appearing recently for mealworms, and we think it is probably the same one, as he perches in exactly the same place as the one did last year while waiting for Richard to drop everything and fetch the mealworms! He comes to his hand for them, but then stands on the ground to eat them. We have also had a nuthatch for a while, and the blackbirds seem to be nesting in their usual place, which is lovely to see. We have to cover the car completely each night as they are very over-generous with their droppings !

I figure they come back from year to year. I had one around here that was a baby. He would sit on Sapphire's outdoor enclosure and sing with my pet birds thru the window.😊 I found him hiding in several places in my yard as he grew and just let him be or protected him. Then I got to see a Robin's nest with about 5 baby robins. That was so exciting to see baby robins. They don't look anything like I thought they would. 🤔 They're black with white sprinkles 😊The nest was in a tree next door to me. It was in the lower limbs of an ornamental crab apple tree. I know it was him. I believe I've seen his offspring because Robin's come here regularly still.

Sorry, I just realised I wrote "blackbirds "when I meant swallows !
We did have a very tame robin once, who even brought his babies to meet us - he would fly up to our hands for mealworms, then fly down and feed them to his young. I think that was a great honour for us ! The postman arrived as we were doing this one day, and we showed him how to hold his hand out with a worm -the robin flew and stood on his hand - I'll never forget the expression of delight on the postman's face !

It's funny to me guys. You are all talking like you get 1 Robin. We have 5-9 in the yard at any given time all summer.

So the other day I got bummed. I completed the enclosure for Matt without cutting my lawn robots perimeter wire and all I wanted to do was to lay in the hottub and watch it cut the grass.

I started the machine and it drove 100ft before stopping. A squirrel had bitten through the wire WHILE IT WAS RUNNING. Dang.....it stopped in place and had to be carried back to its house.
Kerry saved the day for me though...yes that's her with the push mower!

Good morning everyone!

Do you mean that it ran away with you Jeff? Would you like Ms Sully and Opo to help you?

Dear Jeff - the "robins " in the US are a different bird entirely. UK robins are much smaller. different colouring, and a very distinctive character - yours are not "Proper Robins " !

Yes, I believe American robins are named after European robins because they have similar red breasts.

Good morning friends, well, since my ole buddy Woodie has past, Next in line is Drake.
Drake was Penny's Senior dog, He a Min Pin. I made an appt. with the Dr. the other day, and took him to his appointment yesterday afternoon. Poor dude needs nearly all his teeth pulled, has problems with his knees, is getting cataracts, & the Dr. is concerned that his pupils did not retract when shone light. Oh, no...and just the slightest heart murmur, fortunately Nothing as bad as Woodies. She recommended a Senior Blood Panel and CardioPet Blood test also. She prescribed him some Joint Support drug/ supplements. I asked about getting a script to buy them on-line - - - oh, you can't do that, Hum . . okayyyyy. While waiting for Drakes blood draws, I went on -line, and Yes, it is available. Had them fill the prescription, but will not be getting refills it at the Vet, will buy it on-line for 60% of the price. She is a good vet, and have followed her through 3 different offices, but it kinda irked me that she shot me down when I asked about getting them on-line. She also throws shade on On-line pharmacy's like Chewey . . . . "Oh, you have no idea where they get their drugs". any way, I got his meds. $745. (£550) later were walking out the door.

After my chiropractor appointment in the morning, Kerry and i set to finding the breaks in the front AND backyard mower perimeter wires. The squirrels are winning! 2 hours later we had found and fixed the breaks. Anyway N, here's one of them. He is very dirty

It's about .55m square and weighs around 18kg.

I had forgotten about the difference in the American Robin and European Robin....different bird...but not so sure yours is the "proper" bird. Didn't we get into this argument 250 yrs ago? LOL

A trip to the GP this morning to discuss those blood tests last week. The push in the med community is to get every adult on statins and blood pressure meds at age 40. Im obviously not a fan of those meds. So...we dance today!

2 folks mauled at Yellowstone yesterday near Old Faithful. I hate bears in the wild. Just not a lot you can do with that to protect yourself....scares the heck out of me. My kryptonite. Weird huh?

Gonna be a rainy day here but i went out early to see Matt. I miss him not being indoors.

When Edward is in his outdoor enclosure I check on him constantly (even setting alarms to check on him) mostly because I fear him escaping. Thankfully I can see most of his outdoor enclosure from a window!

The European Robin has been around, with the name "robin" for many hundreds of years, before the settlers came to America a few hundred years ago, and saw a bird with red on his front, which reminded them of their robins in Europe (though if you check up, you will find there is no other visible resemblance). So I think our robins definitely came first, and therefore are the "proper" bird !

I had that issue with Mr Fre's vet today. But I had a better experience than you in the long run. His prescription for revolution will be about $50 less. What's weird is she used to recommend chewy and is the person that recommended them in the first place. She also told me that that information is coming from higher ups in the system. They also don't like the vitamin mixes for homemade dog food. She said dogs are getting a new form of kidney and bladder stones that are being connected to them. She said save my money and just fix my homemade dog food and do what I'm doing. I was thinking that Zero Pilot was right and followed his example of using way less than what is recommended though anyway. So all that is pretty interesting. Maybe those vitamins can cause stones when overdone. I think vitamins should be used in a low dose anyway. Not megadoses ever. That's for people too. A good diet of real food. Maybe a little supplement too.
