cold?

hey evryone a few days ago my brother took care of charlie and he said the heat lamp broke we had to change it to a difrnet one then we would ushally use. we are trying to get the 65 wats but for now we have to use a 12 wat one i thinck. the tempature is the exatct same as it ushally is even with the difrent light, but today i picked charlie up and he shell is colder than ushawal we have had this spare light on for 2 days or so and this is the first day she is cold. Any recomendations until i get the new light. thanks - Charlie the tortoise

Are you saying the basking light broke? Do you use a 65 watt flood light that you are replacing?

I don't know how old Charlie is or what species he is. If he is a young tort, the main thing is to be sure he's warm enough. Use a thermometer to check the temp in the enclosure at Charlie's height at the top of his shell. As long as it is correct, Charlie should be fine. If it's too cold, maybe you could add another light bulb to make it warmer. Or make some kind of top for the enclosure if it doesn't have a top now. You could even just lay a blanket across the top, but be very careful not to start a fire!

If you could post a couple pictures of Charlie and the enclosure, we'd have a much better idea of what to suggest.

Update: we got Charlie a new light because the other one broke and I use a 60 wat flood light from Canadian tire.
