Wow very interesting! Congrats! Did you incubate the eggs at a high temperature?
Very interesting and beautiful babies!!!!!
Incubated during 4 months in 31 degrees Celsius
Thanks. Are there many other Chelonian keepers in your part of Sweden?
Is that what it's called? I think my tortoise has the same thing!!
European torts, yes (a lot of them), but Redfoots, no !
I am actually the only known breeder in Sweden these days that has this kind of large group(s) of individuals as far as I know. Two of the most well known Redfoot breeders are not active anymore, and I took over some of the individuals from one of them a couple of years ago...
Cool, I have some Swedish ancestry and I just find it really cool that someone there is raising the same species that I do in such a cold climate. Do they get outside much in the summer months?
Well Bryan, they actually like the snow here
As I live in the south part of Sweden, we don't have the same long, dark cold winters like they do up in the north. We can of course get quite cold weather too in the winter, down to minus 20 degrees Celsius, but a "normal" winter here stick mostly around zero ! And in the summertime we stick above 20 degrees up to even 30 ! So in my case, the Redfoots have to be inside all winter from october to april, and as soon as it gets sunny and above 15 degrees Celsius, they can be outside for a couple of hours. I have them outside all day from may to september, but bring them back inside if it should be cold too many days in a row or a rainy week. They dig their nests outside as well during this season.
Today it's a luvly sunny day here and estimated temps will be at least 20-22 degrees Celsius !
So it's not THAT cold![]()
