Hot & steamy down here in Maryland too. I soaked in my 300 gallon Red Neck stock tank then gave our Sully a nice 15 minute shower. Hotter tomorrow.. 🥵. Hang in there.

Yep hot here to with humidity. I think we have one more day before a break. My AC has been on for weeks. Never had it on before for more than 2 weeks at a time. This is ridiculous.

Bright note for everyone: Fall's just around the corner!!! Then again there's that whole leaf-raking thing that goes along with it. I'll just be happy to have something different to complain about for a change.

And it's complete with a rainbow!

And I know you are all hot! But my thermometer was at 125° last week, with a "feels like" temp of 134°! That's the highest I've seen it in the 14 years I've lived here. Brutal and deadly!

I saw one guy attaching hotdogs to his antenna on his car to drive around to see if they would cook!!!!
How do you even make it around outside down there? What about the poor animals, livestock, and just a run of the mills Outside cats, birds, squirrels, ET, see…?

If we have to do anything like yard work, we go out at the crack of dawn and plan to be back inside by 8:30-9:00.

During regular daytime, we go from AC in the house to AC in the car to AC in the store. What's really bad is coming back to the car after it's been parked in the sun. I usually start the car before I unload the shopping cart so it's cool when I get in.

Native animals that live here in the desert are made for it. Lizards and birds manage as long as they can find water. Lots of people have water in their yards...my tortoise water is visited by birds, lizards, and rabbits, as well as desert gophers and desert rats. They do suffer with the heat though. The birds pant and the rabbits find shade and stretch out and lay in it.

Hopefully most cats and dogs are inside during the day, but those that are out are miserable and in danger of dying. My little chihuahua/pom mix would not last long outside...little dogs have more difficulty with the heat than bigger dogs. They are not as able to pant and sweat enough to cool themselves. I forgot she was outside once...when I remembered, she was laying in shade on the porch, but was unable to walk and in obvious distress. I carried her inside and wrapped cold wet paper towels under and around each paw. It took about 30 min for her to be completely recovered. I only let my shepherd mix do "zoomies" outside for a very short time, and bring him back into the house.
