I'm a new Sulcata owner (40 lbs. 20 yrs old?) and was told they liked colored food. I really didn't think much of it until I brought out a bag of leftover red and yellow pepper strips and he practically trampled me in his frenzy to get to the bag (the bag wasn't opened so it was purely visual). I didn't even know a tortoise could show excitement; I have a lot to learn.

Yes. So much so that I've read that tortoises will eat substrate, etc. If one of those RED lights hangs on top of it.
My RF will turn a pile of greens upside down for a red flower or a slice of red anything.

My guy is insane about white-colored things. Bananas, eggs, etc... which also translates to him trying to eat my bathroom tiles/sink when I'm soaking him. Or trying to eat receipts or the soles of my Chuck Taylors in the lot across the street when he gets outdoor time.

HA! Thanks for sharing this.

Sometimes those of us that have been keeping torts for a long time forget about the novelty of experiencing all this fun stuff for the first time. Your post took me back and gave me a smile.

I hope you continue to enjoy your new tortoise and have many more discoveries about how awesome tortoises are.
