hey guys...

I got some cuttlebones...just wanted to know how to remove the upper hard layer easily.. n my torts nvr try to eat em when thet are whole..But when i smash it into small peices they eat it.

I don't understand what you mean by removing the top layer, can't you just smash it?

Yes, i agree. Just take your hammer and break into a few smaller pieces. I don't think you can easily remove that part of the cuttlebone.

I worry that the hard backing would cut the throat and innards. I just lay it soft side up and they scrape the soft part off the hard back.

If I was to start worrying about feeding whole cuttlebone now, I would also have to start worrying about giving them snails with those hard, crunchy shells too! But I don't.

Sometimes I grater the cuttlebone and mix it with their greens, but I feed it whole too.

I just use my fingernails to break small pieces off the hard backing. One of my water turtles cut his mouth on it one time so I always remove the backing now
