Hi there, new to the group and first time tortoise owner. I have a hatchling Sulcata and I noticed he has some kind of white debris in his eye. It’s long and thin. I have tried rinsing it and it has not come out. Any other suggestions??

While soaking run some water over his eye with your finger. Letting it drop over the eye. Not much more you can do.

Definitely a pic would help. You can use sterile saline (OTC eye wash) in in the eye to gently flush it, if it is a foreign body.

Are you sure it isn't the nictitating membrane?
What substrate are you using?
One eye or both?
What type of UV bulb?
Do you have a water spray bottle?

Thanks for all the responses. I ended up contacting the breeder and he wanted me to bring her back so he could look. It was a piece of hay and he couldn’t get it out. He had me pick out another (I ended up bringing 2 home lol)

Why is a baby exposed to hay?

Are you aware that they should never live together as a pair? Groups can sometimes work out, but not pairs. They will each need their own enclosure.
Give these a read through. Most breeders don't start sulcata babies the right way. We've been doing it all wrong for 3 decades, and most breeders still haven't figured it out. They are not a desert species. They hatch during the hot wet humid rainy tropical monsoon season.
