Today we have had the devastating news that a worm injection given two our 36yr old Horsefield and 24 year old will probably mean that tomorrow their beautiful lives will come to an end. Please, please, please check what your vet is giving your tortoises. We would hate for anyone to go through this pain because the vet hadn't read up that this is fatal in tortoises.

Think it was Ivomecin but didn't take in 100% because I was so upset.

So sorry.

Sad thing is that most worms are commensal unless they are in very high numbers, and wouldn't even have bothered the tortoises.

So very sorry. For anyone reading this. Do not take your tortoise to a vet unless it's obviously sick and all the advice given to you from the experienced members of this forum has not worked. Many of our tortoises have never seen a vet. Correct housing and care will help prevent needing vet services.
This is such a sad situation these people have to look forward too.

I am very sorry. Where did you hear this news and how are your tortoises reacting right now?

you should report that vet to whatever medical board licenses veterinarians in your area, easily malpractice..... id wonder how they came up with a dosage? i doubt you could find one in any literature.....
