Wow this story could have turned into devastation for sure! I understand that you have reported this vet, but please follow up where you can to ensure something is done. This is a scary situation, we are grateful for you to share as it makes us all aware now. It is a hard treatment to figure out with a tortoise. I have to say that if they are taken care of well as you have, then you should really never need a vet. Most things you can cure at home.
