I have two three toed box turtles and we finally made an outdoor enclosure for them. It has water, a small log, a pile of dirt which they love to dig in, and plenty of plants and rocks. They have never been outside before and they are full grown adults (dont know what age). Now after putting them outside for about two weeks their shells are starting to look dry and "dusty" colored. I put vitashell on them and it makes them look better but after it goes away their shells turn that color again. Does anyone know whats happening/have advice?

Sometimes when mine dig under moist soil, then they come out and go in the sun, they will look like that, but it's only the soil drying out. Put plenty of plants in your turtle garden, and a large enough small pond that they can sit in and soak. The plants will give out much needed humidity for a while after you water them. I usually hose down my garden once in the early morning and then again in the afternoon.

I tried Emu oil on my boxies shell and it seem to be working well.
