If it encourages her to eat the better stuff, that’s ok, perhaps try and wean it down over time so she doesn’t become to reliant on itthis is about how much she had today. a little less probably
i've been doing this for the past few days but I'm worried it's too much sugar for her TwTIf it encourages her to eat the better stuff, that’s ok, perhaps try and wean it down over time so she doesn’t become to reliant on it![]()
Yeah that’s why I’d ideally try not to do it all the time, just go smaller and smaller and start lessening the days you do it, it’s good it encourages her thoughi've been doing this for the past few days but I'm worried it's too much sugar for her TwT
Sounds good enough!her poops are less diarrhea today- still soft but not liquid ! picture below
urates are soft with texture like mozzarella cheese. like l'oréal paris shampoo.
Aw noooo!!next issue: the snails ate all the tortoise food
update: tortoise has really nice urates.
poop: diarrhea, but it was barely anything. only a few fibers floating around, and it looked kind of like substrate except it came from her butt, not her body. lol
I have kept tortoises for many many years...I never kept track of how many I actually had...between 50 and 100 maybe? Anyway only 2 ever had worms...the Vet just wants money...don't waste it...my old vet was frankly, really strange. i just didn't like her. this one is much more reputable. i'd like to take her to this one from now on. i'll see if her diet makes her diarrhea go away.
on a side note, if it doesn't though, i'll do what you said and send her stool samples to a lab, then maybe take the results to the new vet to get it "read"/analyzed? i believe either way, i'll have to pay the 100$ general checkup fee- since i dont want to do checkups at my old vet anymore.
i wish i was rich, dangit![]()
I know you think you're helping...but you are just creating more eating problems...tortoises are extremely private animals...you are a giant predator to them...she won't eat because YOU are making her fussy...Fix her meal, then put it down and leave it...don't watch the tort don't hover over her...allow her to eat in private...if she doesn't eat it in a couple of hours, throw it away...and feed her tomorrow...do that for several days. feed her what she's supposed to eat, not what you LIKE...what difference does it make if you don't like it..you don't have to eat it...seriously you are not doing her any favors...i hope it's okay for her to have maybe two small bites of pumpkin. i lure her with it, otherwise she won't eat.
I came up with a (i think it's pretty smart) technique. i use just a little bit of pumpkin to stick greens to the spoon. when she finishes a bite, i scoop more in. that way she rarely gets the pumpkin, but can smell it. the spoon is also orange which helpsbut she hasn't been eating lately, unless i give her pumpkin....
i can tell you have not read this whole thread. she has gone for nearly two weeks without a single bite of food. if i am not watching, if it is not in her fancy orange bowl, she will NOT eat! She will starve! the second i hold the food for her she walks over. you may know your tortoises well, but i know mine best. i know that she will not eat unless i do it my way.I know you think you're helping...but you are just creating more eating problems...tortoises are extremely private animals...you are a giant predator to them...she won't eat because YOU are making her fussy...Fix her meal, then put it down and leave it...don't watch the tort don't hover over her...allow her to eat in private...if she doesn't eat it in a couple of hours, throw it away...and feed her tomorrow...do that for several days. feed her what she's supposed to eat, not what you LIKE...what difference does it make if you don't like it..you don't have to eat it...seriously you are not doing her any favors...
and you think i haven't tried all these things? leaving it on slate, gradually taking away pumpkin, cucumber, etc? if you had read, you would have known.I know you think you're helping...but you are just creating more eating problems...tortoises are extremely private animals...you are a giant predator to them...she won't eat because YOU are making her fussy...Fix her meal, then put it down and leave it...don't watch the tort don't hover over her...allow her to eat in private...if she doesn't eat it in a couple of hours, throw it away...and feed her tomorrow...do that for several days. feed her what she's supposed to eat, not what you LIKE...what difference does it make if you don't like it..you don't have to eat it...seriously you are not doing her any favors...
this seems like a case similar to survivorship bias. just because MOST your 50-100 tortoises didn't have worms doesn't mean mine doesn't! i know now that she doesn't since her poops are more solid, but i am not going to listen to you and "not spend my money" if your only reasoning is "my tortoises never had worms". yes! i think the price is audacious! but if i need to spend the money, i will!I have kept tortoises for many many years...I never kept track of how many I actually had...between 50 and 100 maybe? Maggie, before you judge Yingg about her tortoise keeping, remember that she got this tortoise as a child and she still fairly young.I know you think you're helping...but you are just creating more eating problems...tortoises are extremely private animals...you are a giant predator to them...she won't eat because YOU are making her fussy...Fix her meal, then put it down and leave it...don't watch the tort don't hover over her...allow her to eat in private...if she doesn't eat it in a couple of hours, throw it away...and feed her tomorrow...do that for several days. feed her what she's supposed to eat, not what you LIKE...what difference does it make if you don't like it..you don't have to eat it...seriously you are not doing her any favors...
