So i figured this question should go here since it relates to eating. Fo we know why tortoises eat poop? Like if i have ollie out roaming and he has food set for him to eat he will try and eat the stray cat poop ( i pull it out of bis mouth before he can actually eat it 99%of the time )

They are opportunist. In the wild, they will eat whatever they come across and is edible. They never know when they will eat again. It's not something that we should let them do, as our pets have medicines and vaccines that could possibly be bad for them.

Many animal and insects eat feces as a normal behavior; other species may not normally consume feces but do so under unusual conditions. Coprophagy refers to many kinds of feces eating including eating feces of other species (heterospecifics), other individuals of its own (allocoprophagy), or its own poop (autocoprophagy)…….. The young of many animals eat the feces of their mothers or other animals in the herd or colony to obtain the bacteria required to properly digest vegetation found in their ecosystems. When they are born, their intestines do not contain these bacteria (they are sterile) which are needed for food fermentation. Without them, they would be unable to obtain any nutritional value from plants they eat. You will see dogs go eat cat pop as its vitamin rich and very high in proteins. Other poop eating machines are koalas, pigs, hippos, elephant, panda, the common house fly, termites and of course the “dung beetle”……

Poop is like an animal's business card to others, even of different species. There's a lot one can learn from the poop of another animal. Plus, poop can still have some nutritional value left. Dogs, cats, bears, etc, all do it. That's one theory, anyway.
