I think I may have made a huge mistake. My Russian tortoise (6 in.) was playing outside. When I came to retrieve her, it looked like she had dug up and egg. It wasn't near her rear end, but it was with her in the hole. It was about the size of a finger nail. A pinky finger. I assumed it was too small and thought it could be a snake egg, so I squished it. The shell was spongy. Can Russian tortoise eggs to the size of a jelly belly???? I'll be so sad if I smooshed her only egg. :(

I don't like snakes. ;) Here in Florida they can be dangerous. So you think it was a snake egg????? :):)

Sometimes 'dud' eggs can be small like that. I don't know how likely digging up a nest with one egg in it is - digging a nest and laying a small egg seems more likely to me.

Smushing eggs that could belong to native species is not something I'd recommend.

A dud egg? I guess that would be a legitimate possibility. I hope I didn't smoosh one of her's that wasn't a dud. Thanks for your input!
