I started to grow my own Elephant grass (pennisetum purpureum) to feed my leopard tortoise and she simply loves it!. It is easy to grow and you can harvest every week and it will simply grow back. You can buy the seeds at Amazon and it will not break the bank. This is what they naturally eat in Africa, so I assume it is the best you can give your tortoise. As long as you keep it inside during the cold months, you should be able to have a ready healthy food supply. Please let me know if you have questions.
