my tortoise has had the eyes sealed over for about 8 months. It is 18 months old. I had it under a grow light over the winter and for past month has been outside. I live in El Paso, TX so the weather is warm already. Last summer it lived in the same outdoor pen where it could go in or out of sunlight and water at will. I feed tortoise chow, fresh veggies, meal worms daily
What could be the problem?

Eyes sealed shut for 8 months??? The problem is you didn't see a vet or make changes yet...!

What type of tortoise do you have? Please give the temps of the enclosure (basking area. cool area, night temp, etc.) and humidity.

@Tom , can u add other questions?

It lives outside now. I keep it in a plastic tub because I am afraid to let it wander in the enclosed pen that is 6feet by 4feet because I have potted plants in the pen and may lose sight of it and won't know if it is in trouble. It does eat the chopped up fresh squash and carrots I put out each day. It soaks in the water dish I have for it and hides under the coconut fiber I have in there too. It gets sunlight for about 6 hours each day. It does crawl around inside the tub too.

The humidity is low and the temp is about 80 degrees during the day and mid 50s at night.

Can you give us pictures?

it’s very dangerous to be using a tub outside, and it’s likely too small. They can easily overheat when some tubs are used outdoors.

this tortoise should have seen a vet 8 months ago.

A tortoise that has sealed closed eyes usually doesn't eat. I'm surprised to hear that yours is eating. You MUST get those eyes open. It's imperative.

Soak this tortoise in warm water for a half hour or so several times a day.

We need to know what species this tortoise is, and I'd also like to see pictures of the tortoise and his enclosure.

I took my turtle to the vet today and found out 2 things. First it is not a tortoise but a desert box turtle. Second it is low on vit A and has puffy eye lids. So I ordered a vitamin mix with vit A, and the turtle food I am feeding does have vit A in ordered some drops to put in its eyes that reviews write works great. I have been giving it fresh veggies daily too.
