Just finished an outdoor enclosure for my son's Sulcata tortoise (Crush) based on Tom's design. Crush if about 7.5" wide. Has anyone ever had issues with their tortoise falling off the edge of the ramp and tipping over? The ramp is not very steep at all. Probably about 3-3.5" at the tallest point. The ramp is currently 13.5 inches wide. Also, do I need to put anti-slip tape on the ramp. The ramp is just plywood,

If there is a way for a tort to do something scary, count on it doing it.

What about putting "grading" from the upper sides of the ramp down to the dirt/lawn/yard/level ground so that if Crush steps off the side there's sturdy dirt or rocks to keep him from tipping over? It might even be considered part of the ramp to get inside from the side.

The grip tape would be a nice thing to do. Probably the angle isn't so steep as to be a problem, but this IS Crush afterall, and you want him to be safe and happy. You might get the Best Tort Dad Of The Week Award!

From what I can see in the pic, it looks great. All that hard work will pay off with 10-20 years of enjoyment and near effortless tortoise keeping.

All of my tortoises of all species and sizes make it in and out of their boxes on ramps just like yours without falling off or needing grip tape, every day. Adding traction or making a wall won't hurt anything, but it isn't necessary either.
