Filling Water Bowl With Substrate

Does anyone have any idea WHY Kronk would take to filling his water bowl with substrate? I suspected it was my young nephew, then I caught him in the act... He is literally pushing substrate (coco coir) ar I understand until the bowl is full and the ground around it is level with the edges!!!

Who knows what he's thinking while redecorating...my advise would be to put large stones around the dish so he doesn't have anything to push into it immediately nearby.
Mine drags all kinds of crud into her dish, I just shrug, sign and start over each morning with fresh clean water.

Probably for the same reason Speedy turns around in his food dish , and pushes his greens all over ! Who knows ?

I have a leopard that does this. I built a raised platform, bigger than his water dish, in the corner of his enclosure. He has ramps going up to his water area with no substrate.

I built a "skirt" around one of my outdoors water pools to stop that.
I don't think it's uncommon.

I keep river rock around ours to lessen it, but if a sully wants to put dirt somewhere, it's going there. You really have no say in the matter.

I have the same problem with Tippie. I have to clean his water bowl at least twice a day minimum. I'm going to try what @Jodie M suggested and see if that helps

My two do this too - they love to wait until their bowl is full of lovely fresh water, and then its a race to see how much dirt and poo they can get in there as quickly as possible......

Its probably coincidental. Try moving the water bowl and seeing if it continues.

I'd try orchid bark too. I think its a better substrate for leopards too.

Still, the bottom line is that all of them drag or push substrate into their bowls. I change all of mine once or twice a day.

My Shellie has started doing that as well as uprooting the plants... Her water dish gets cleaned daily anyway (clean water freak over here) but now even more so. Now, my babies have never pooped in their water dish. They do poop in their bath water. I think torts just have that messy side to them. Gotta love them just the messy way they are
