I joined the forum back in January. We have had a male sulcata for 15 years and we recently adopted a female from my vets family after he passed away very unexpectedly last summer. We knew we couldn't put 2 males together very successfully so we decided to help his family and take in a female. We weren't looking into getting into the tortoise breeding business but she laid 3 different batches of eggs between December to February after never laying eggs prior. So my husband and I had lots to learn and researched as much as we could. We decided to dig up the eggs and incubate them. We did that with all 3 batches. She laid a total of 60 eggs between the 3 batches which has produced 36 babies with a possible 3 to 4 more still hatching. We became certified with our new exotic vet that our parents are healthy and have gotten our license with the FWC to may sell these guys at Repticon. We have been selling them through Facebook which I have enjoyed because I am able to have long conversations with the potential new owners about how big they get and how long they live. I can honestly say the 12 we have sold have all gone to great homes! We can't sell them through Facebook any longer as I just found out that you can't sell animals on there. So trying to find homes for them on here. I enjoy this forum and reading the different questions that people have. If anyone knows of interested buyers in the Venice, FL area (South of Sarasota) please let me know.

Are you just going to be at Repticon in FL? The next repticon here in Atlanta is next month, and I've never seen anyone there with Sulcatas. I bet you would find a lot of good homes for them there.

Sorry, you have not met the rules to sell on this forum. I also don't know of any certifications of fwc for selling sulcatas. They are sold in the USA all the time from a lot of states including Florida without any certifications needed.

I do not understand how I have not met the rules to sell on this forum? I saw other posts about selling tortoises. I read a post from one of the administrators about selling on here? Can you explain how I have not met the rules so I know what I need to do? And YES the State of Florida requires anyone who is going to sell a Class III reptile to a pet store or at a reptile show to have a Class III license through the FWC. It is quite the process to get this license and took me a very long time to gather all the information they wanted plus the vet visit to ensure our babies & mom and dad were healthy. I look forward to understanding what I have done to not meet the rules. If I am not allowed to sell them on here then maybe you have a suggestion on where I should sell them?

This is our first season of having babies so we are just trying to figure things out so we really thought we would just go the show in Sarasota at the beginning of August since we live just south of there. Not sure about driving all the way to Atlanta. That is interesting that there aren't any at Repticon in Atlanta. We just went to Repticon in Tampa last weekend and there was a few people with sulcatas.

I think possibly has something to do with the laws in GA. They have some strict laws here. Oh and as far as selling here if you read the 4th sticky in the for sale forum it explains.

Sorry, got back on the forum to late and Toddrickfl1 beat me to answering you. But he did point you in the right direction.
So the permit is just for selling to pet stores and at reptile stores but not needed to sell too individuals? Never heard or read that before.
As for other ways to sell before you meet this forums requirements, look into fauna classified. http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/ Just be sure you read their rules and follow them too the T. They, administrator and Mods are, well to say it as nice as I can, idiots.

Hello and welcome from Texas! I am a hobby keeper of 2 beautiful and very sweet Redfooted torts who are 3 yrs old and I’ve been raising them from teeny tiny hatchlings. Never planned on keeping any reptiles, had no clue about any of that, but my then 10 yr old daughter was „ready” for her first very own pet, and that was her choice, so ... mom had to roll up her sleeves and get herself educated too, to be sure the little critters get what they need at our home. Well, as life would often have it, the 10 yr old’s attention span is just that. 10 yr old attention span, despite of all the other wonderful, mature characteristics of my child... and before I knew it, I was finding myself on this forum more then our Tort Mom did, and ... I didn’t mind that one bit, bcs #1) I had quickly fallen in love with the little critters, and #2) I had started learning so much fascinating stuff and meeting such great people here, making new friends... which is what my wish is for every newcomer here. Just start checking the forum out, posting, sharing your experience and knowledge with us, help out other people when you can. I think that this is more or less what earns you the right to do business on this Forum. Anyway, it’s great having you here, looking forward to seeing your pics
