Hi I am new to tortoises and getting my first one next weekend. My husband has a really nice fish tank light and I'm wondering if it could be used. How would I know if it is UVB or if it would be appropriate for a leopard tortoise?

You can install reptile tubes in some sizes of hoods, but UV and UVB will not penetrate the glass, so you'd have to carefully remove the glass from the light section of the hood. I've done this for my baby redfoot. But he only stays inside at night. I don't know of the long term issues.

I will ad that in an aquarium with an aquarium hood, it is very easy to regulate both heat and humidity as well. If you could also supply a few hours a day of natural sunlight, you should be good.
