Hi,
I want to know exactly what I can give Tanker and what I should stay away from. I'm also having issues finding greens in the local stores. Can someone write a list? Fruits, Greens, Veggies and how often? thank you.

No fruits or veggies, except as a rare treat.

There really are too many options to list them all, but this will give you a better understanding of what/how to feed.

Thank you for all the information. I've read other places that giving a tortoise the same kind of food until its done isn't good. It's better to give them a variety, something different everyday. Say kale today, collard greens tomorrow etc.

Here is a good list specific to russian tortoises. I too have trouble finding a good variety in my grocery store. I feed spring mix everyday since it has a variety, plus one different item a week that I feed mixed with the spring mix (would do more but my budget doesnt allow). This week the different item was collard greens, last week mustard greens, ect. On very rare occasions I can find dandelion greens which he loves. I also give him little treats of whatever raw leftover veggies we have once or twice a week. Hope this helps!

The russiantortoise.org site really has a good list. You can also order a seed mix from carolinapetsupply.com. The seeds grow well inside and they will give you a little something to mix in with your regular food.

It doesn't matter if your "variety" is once a week, or once a day. If you've bought a head of escarole, you can use it up until its gone, then buy something different next time.

Thank you very much. I am just moving into a studio appartment with my boyfriend so we can't spend a lot on Tanker right now. I like your idea of once a week switching it up. thank you so much,
Becky

Yeah I was thinking about buying a plant for him. Do you keep it right in the enclosure all the time or do you take yours out? Thank you,
Becky
