So we have been visited by a fox. It is mostly interested in our chicken coop. Luckily I built my coop and run really well. Hardware cloth all around. No gaps. So I'm not worried about the chickens. I hope the fox will move on soon. Would the fox show interest in the tortoise? So far it only shows up when the night box is closed with tortoise safe inside.

You never know with foxes. They will eat quite a variety of items. That being said, I am relatively sure that 99.9% of its interest is in your chickens.

Put out a Have-A-Heart trap and catch it. Then if you don't want to kill it, release it about 1/4 to 1/2 mile away. It will still be in its own territory, but that should terrify it enough to never come near your property again.

Alternatively, shoot it in the butt with something non-lethal like a paintball and teach it that humans are awful scary creatures that inflict pain and it should stay well aways from all humans. This is really the nicest thing someone could do for a wild animal. Fear of humans keeps them alive and well and out in the wilderness where they belong.

They also have motion activated sprinklers that can work to deter them.

Or blast an airhorn at them. The idea is to create a scary negative association with your property and people and try to deter them from coming around. It sounds so mean, but it might keep the animal alive. Losing fear of people and hanging around chickens coops is an almost guaranteed death sentence.

I have fox, coons, skunks, opossum, cats all the time in my yard at night. They are mostly interested in my chickens too, which they can't get too. My tortoises are locked up every night and none of the wild life has ever bothered getting in or even acted like they knew they were there
I wouldn't worry about it as lock as the animals, tortoises and chickens are locked up each night.

Thank you, I don't want to kill it. So paintballs it will be. We live in town not even on the outskirts but I guess close enough for it to wonder in. Or just just that e fact Arkansas is country enough. It is a beautiful fox and best in the wild.
