The wife gave the OK to enclose another area in the back yard for my CDT's. This is in the south east corner of the yard, the Russians are in the south west corner.
Both pens have 2X6 top rail that serves 2 purposes, 1) keep the torts in with a lip on the inside 2) a place to sit and watch them. This pen in next to the pond and the "sitting rail" works great for watching the sliders in the pond.
Total area is a about 200sqft. Top of fence is 17" and the pickets are set in the ground about 3-4"

This is the current home for the CDT's and they will not have full run this year. Ill re-evaluate in the spring weather they are big enough for ME to feel comfortable with them having that much room to hide.

I think english ivy. I hate it, it grows from the neighbors yard and the boss (wife) says it stays. It looks good but hides rats and it GROWS fast..

I thought that was what it looked like but sometimes pics can be off a bit...once you open that corner up for your torts may I suggest you may want to go and keep the ivy trimmed up out of reach for your CDTs, while occasional ingestion will likely not cause harm ;

"Ivy contains saponins which are steroid glycosides and falcarinol, which is capable of causing allergic skin reactions, so this plant is one to avoid."

this is from www.tortoisetable.org

also, this type of ivy does invite rats/mice/rodents...how big are your CDT's? Are they large enough that they are a bit well, nibble resistant ? :p

My CDT's are not yet a year old but they don't have full run of the enclosure. I will trim the ivy far back as looks good when the time comes.

very attractive. Your wife must think that is a great addition to your yard. Are the sides pieces of fencing attached to cross beams and then capped?

Lynn, there are posts, 2x4s between the posts and then the top 2x6. I bit overkill but that's the way I do things.

I like it, it looks great. I am only concerned about rats hiding in the ivy.
