This is one of m Rose of Sharon bushesDSCN3698.JPG
Flowers and leafs are edible...bloomsDSCN3699.JPG...if you look very hard, you can see that my grape vine has taken over the 30 foot cherry tree behind me...the grapes only seem to grow there, none in my 'vineyard ...

Very nice.
Wish I could have gotten the multiple grape bushes I have planted to survive.
At my other place a had the three nice Rose of Sharon. I should have taken at least one with me. I did grab seed pods and branches, but got nothing from them
I thought the same as Yvonne, thinking the flower was Morning Glory.

The first picture might be some type of begonia, but I'm not an expert at ID'ing plants.

The first picture looks like one called a "four-o-clock" (Mirabilis jalapa). They grow all over SoCal. The flowers open and close quickly.

Per the tortoise table they are a no go as tortoise food:

And that my friends is the definitive answer...they are indeed 4 o'clocks! Thanks!

Can you please give the scarecrow a face?
It's too scary without one.
