I'm not sure if this is Geochelone Pardalis Pardalis or Geochelone Pardalis Babcocki.

Can anyone help me out with identifying it, I think its Babcocki

It is easier to tell when they are older. You are probably right, can you ask the breeder? Either way it is a cute little tort.

Hi,
Somewhere in this little ones background there is Stigmochelys pardalis pardalis, but he has more S.p.babcocki in him/her.
So you have a not pure S.p.babcocki, doesn't matter to the tortoise though :D

Danny; I am curious how you could tell. Is it because it is so dark? My little ones are a lot lighter in color. Just wondering.

Hi Jeremy,
It's not the light and dark. You can easily make a leopard tortoise lighter by raising it in a very warm enviroment, so light and dark don't mean much.
I'm going by the dots on the vertebral scutes. For S.p.babcocki they have one or no dots in each vertebral scute. For S.p.pardalis they have two dots in at least the first 4 vertebral scutes, most of the time but not always in the 5th also.
This leopard has one dot in the first vertebral, 2 in the second and third and none in the fourth and fifth.
Thats how I'm basing my conclusion. :D

That was what I figured too Danny.. although I didn't know the "names" of them - since someone is always changing their names anyway!

I just figured somewhere along the 'line' someone "crossed the line"..

I had a similar hatchling some years back Jeremy.

Neat; I didn't know that thanks for clearing that up. Mine all have 1 dot so they are S.p.babcocki.
