So when I went to the vet in the city next to mine I didn't find any female tortoises that really struck me as one that I wanted to purchase, as Ayden did, so I won't be getting a second Russian (this month at least). However I have completely redone Ayden's pen. I bought 4 more 40lb bags of dirt and put those in his pen, making the soil 6 inches deep at it's shallowest point and 8ish at it's deepest, and added more landscaping for visual interest and as sort of a mini-playground for Ayden. The pen is 23x40inches and i have used topsoil, half a brick of coir and some sphagnum moss for places that he usually likes to lay such as inside of his hide and on the logs below his heat lamp that he likes to use for basking. Ayden, being the creature of class that he is, immediately set about "rearranging things" (aka bulldozing the dirt around) the moment that I put him inside his new setup, but nonetheless I think that he likes it
he's laying under his lamp basking now after a few hours outside (it reached 79 glorious degrees today
) walking around and a 20minute bath under the sunlight from the window. I've overall had an amazing day with nothing that went wrong and this was just icing on the cake
