Hi everyone,

I am looking to obtain a golden greek. These are the pics I received from the seller (they are not the original breeders so I was not able to confirm the adults, they did inform me the torts are about 6 months old). Based on my searches, these look too dark to be goldens? Any opinions welcomed! thanks!

Goldens (accurate name is Mesopotamian Tortoise) are not always gold and in fact can be very very dark, even black. Golden Greek is a dealer made up term. You can read more on my site: www.HermanniHaven.com
Those are probably a mix of some sorry but do look to be Mesopotamians. No way of telling for sure without adult photos. Golden colored adults can produce black, brown or gold babies though.

Thanks for the help Chris, I read through your site after posting this and it has been very informative! Ended up getting some T. g. marokkensis from a breeder I have worked with in the past.
