Good afternoon, Everyone,
I have a Russian tortoise that I rescued several months ago. I noticed he has a raised hard white spot in his shell. It is on top of the shell close to his tail. It isn’t soft and does not stink. Could it be a calcium growth?
Thanks,
Jean

It looks like some exposed bone where the scute(s) have chipped. Nothing to really do for it. Over time, it will most likely be covered up by new scute growth.

It does look like the top bit of keratin has chipped in that spot, could be an old knock he’s had, it’s quite typical with wild caught Russians like yours, they’ll be new growth and it should smooth out over time🐢💚
