So built Harley a new enclosure (a bookshelf converted into an enclosure).

And it all closed up:

Now to go make a second one for the rescue I still haven't figured out what to call him.

Nice job! Are you switching to a CHE for night heat?

Yeah I turn off the MVB and then switch to a CHE at night so I don't have too many holes in it. My temps stay good doing it this way: 100 basking, 83 cool side, and 85 night time.

I would not wrap that light with tin foil. It will get too hot and either burn the bulb out much faster or possibly make it exploded causing a fire.

Just curious but why do you think that?

Thank you @Abramsmytankturtle

Ok thanks @wellington. The petshop had sold me the wrong fixture the MVB didn't fit so my mom had the wire cage fixture that she wasn't using anymore so I borrowed it until I can go get a bigger fixture for the MVB. I wrapped it because I think too much of the heat was escaping (I figured since aluminum foil can be baked in the oven it would be fine to wrap the fixture). I'll try to get out to the pet store tomorrow to buy the other fixture in the mean time I'll unwrap it and keep a close eye on the temps. The CHE is in the fixture that the store originally sold me so it is fine (they said it was fine for both but the MVB is too long and wide).

I didn't realize it was just a cage around the bulb. The tin foil is probably fine then, but be sure to at least put some vent holes around the top of the tin foil, corded end.

Because it will, had it happen with a che in a small dome. It actually broke. That's why the dome fixtures have vent holes in them. If the bulb gets too hot they will burn out faster. Not sure if they would explode, but I can't see why not and I wouldn't want someone to risk what might happen.
The small domed fixtures should not be used for MVB's either as the small dome holds in too much heat around the bulb.

I get that, I was wondering why you thought that about a cage light. We do it all the time at work and on the farm.

I didn't realize it was a cage and not a dome. The cage, wrapped in tin foil, should still have vent holes. But my original post, I didn't realize it was just the cage.
