I recently acquired a 2x4x15 Vivarium for a leopard tortoise hatchling I plan to purchase. If any of you guys house in a vivarium. Did you know place the basking area near the heat panel/ heat emitter or on the. Opposite end? Trying figure out how I can provide the proper heat and cool down areas.

Thanks

I place the RHPs in the middle and run them on a thermostat to maintain ambient temps above 80 all over the whole enclosure. This is independent of the basking bulb, UV tube and additional lighting.

Give these a read through before you buy a hatchling:

Be very careful who you buy from. Most breeders/sellers do not start babies correctly:

Thanks man. I have read through all of the threads you posted they were a lot of help. Have three breeders in mind. All seem pretty reputable based off of the experiences guys had with them.

Ask them:
  1. Do they soak daily?
  2. Keep them mostly indoors on damp substrate with a humid hide?
  3. Start them on a wide variety of weeds, leaves and grasses?
  4. Get them out of the incubator, and off the incubation media, soon after hatching?
You should get a simple yes to all of these.
