Hello, hope everyone is doing well in these weird times. I just got a russian tortoise from a coworker who couldn't care for it. I've had all types of reptiles in my life but this tortoises shell has me wondering if something is wrong it has a small dimple (pictured) and his scutes seem spread out any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the add to the forums hope to post about this guy for a long time and thanks for any advice in advance.

Welcome to the forum. The Scutes are sticking together in a few places that's what makes it look a little Funky, otherwise great looking tort. It's common with Russians. Nothing to worry about. Also your new Tort is female.

This is a wild caught tortoise who had to scrounge around far and wide, looking for food. He grew with little to no food. Then he was picked up and shipped to a pet store where someone bought him and started "power feeding" him. All of a sudden this little body had an excess of food, hence the wide spaces between the scutes showing a whole lot of quick, new growth. Now that he's in a stable environment, and once you get him outside in a nice, safe and secure yard (pen) all that new growth will start to harden and look more natural. It's nothing to worry about. Quite normal for a wild caught tortoise now in captivity.
