So for some context
Eggs were like 3 inches from the surface
I own two red footed tortoise and live in a country which is very similar to there native range( they are considered native here) with this they can also let there eggs hatch naturally here.
Short version
So basically I was digging to make a nesting site then I heard a crack I stopped and digging with my hands and found 3 eggs, 2 were bad and already dead the other one had it egg and membrane broken to the point I could see the fully formed shell of the tortoise I made a incubator , placed the egg inside (crack facing up ) and sealed the cracked with foil paper.Full story
Now where I live my soil is extremely hard(alot of it is mixed with clay and has so manyrocks) , so hard it feels like concrete when you hit it so for the past few days I've been soften it and adding worms and pill bugs to help keep it that way. Today I was digging a nesting spot for my female redfoot about a foot down removing the clumps and stones, as I kept expanding the whole i saw these white specs exposed through the dirt the first few were rocks but then I tried to remove it then I heard it a small crack.I stopped and started using my hands to dig and sure enough they where eggs the first one had a crack and was leaking fluid the 2nd one aswell( both eggs had died way before i cracked them) but the third one ended up with the white membrane being slightly slice to where the blood was coming out of the egg looking at the egg closely I could see a fully formed shell( just the top can't see the legs or face) i acted fast and got the Styrofoam cooler i got yesterday and filled it with 2 inches with water then placed my heater inside from what my search said I got a clean container placed damp paper towels at the bottom and place the egg with the crack facing up and sealed the cracked membrane with transparent foil paper.
