My russian (crush) has overheated and I am very concerned about him. Is there anything specific that I can do for him. I put him in water to soak but he is still very lethargic.

I would try soaking him in some piedialyte. Keep him soaking for about an hour. Hopefully others with more experience will have more ideas. You may need to take him to a vet and they could give him fluids. The sooner the better.

how overheated did he get? what happened? out in sun, left in tank outside? ...

He was unfortunately outside for too long. I feel horrible about this mistake. We thought we were doing good by letting him get some UV light. Today was pretty hot here in MS.

Temp? Peak? My mates in Palm Springs CA are fine & they hit 120 today....? Russians are stronger than you think.... But pedialyte, carrot soak, or cool long soaks. By that i mean a two hour cool bath/soak.

I really hope he is doing better and it was the case of just over doing it a bit. You know how when you have been outside doing work in the heat when you get in all you want to do is crash. Praying its the same thing here.

Keep us updated.:tort:

Oh goodness. Agree about Pedialyte. Or coconut water which also has lots of electrolytes and more. Monitor closely or see a vet. Hope there is no brain or kidney damage. Also hope your baby recovers from this. Except for basking a little, tortoises are shade animals, in my humble opinion. I am so sorry you and your tortoise are dealing with this, tough thing for both of you.

Oh my :( i Am so sorry! Im sure your freaking out! But i bet he cAn sense ur upset and scared right now so try calming down ( even tho its hard) and maybe it will first calm him some- i would just do the soak but with some cool water- use repti safe in a blue bottle it adds electrolytes calcium and more- dont cool him off too fast and put him into shock- just use shallow shallow water so he dont drown and watch him carefully soak him for a longer period of time! I hope all goes well!!
