Your tortoise is not used to his surroundings so they tend to hide until they feel safe. Give tort a warm soak to make sure doesn't dehydrate he may just eat a little after soak, my Hermanns did exactly the same now he doesn't stop eating :D also what are your enclosure temps? A cold tortoise won't eat

Yep.....

We got our 4 inches Leopard Tortoise last July, he did not eat or move for more then two weeks. After that. he become a eating machine and full of action.

This is imperative. You will want to have an idea of what temps you are running with strength of bulb and distance to tortoise...even if you need to lay a thermometer in the enclosure and leave it for 15 minutes...this will at least give you an idea of what you are dealing with....:D

Try changing the bulbs. This has happened to me before. It would be helpful if you could tell us what kind of bulbs you have. If you find the right mixture of bulbs it would be great. Might want to get ready to go on a shopping spree. ;)

The temperature should be 90-95 Fahrenheit. Definitely give your tort a warm water soak. I use a big plastic bowl and add a few drops of zoo med reptisafe when I give Arnold his soaks. He tends to do his water drinking while he soaks but also will go potty in it before his soak is over. My tortoise was kinda shy for the first week but I handle him every day and he is getting to be quite social with me. He'll walk up to me and lift his arm and scratch at my arm and will come at times when I call him. Just give it time and make sure you offer a variety of food. The other members here have been extremely helpful answering my questions so feel free to ask any of us! :)
